Oceanside ‘cruise ship journalist’ finds a home for ‘Love Boat’ television show deck and furniture

Peter Knego says being a cruise ship journalist isn’t always smooth sailing.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Before you grow up and become a cruise ship journalist, you might want to check the fine print and paycheck. In this Zevely Zone, I cruised to Oceanside where it was anchors away.

Peter Knego is a cruise ship journalist. “I take a cruise and then I’ll write about it,” said Peter. The cruises are free for Peter who averages about ten voyages a year. How many cruises has he taken? “Oh, about 300, a little more, I lost count a long time ago,” said Peter.

Talk about bringing your work home with you; I interviewed Peter at a bar inside his home that came from a ship. The stools we were sitting on also came for a ship. Peter’s home is filled with ship parts, furniture and artwork. “Everything except the drywall and I

‘A 48 year evolution.’ Columbia’s eclectic Bohemian Home furniture, art shop to close

Metalwork cranes and mechanical tin men greet customers at Columbia’s Bohemian Home furniture and art store, located at 2720 Devine St.

Vintage watches wait behind glass, clocks with animal faces keep time, lamps and rugs and paintings collected over decades abound. On nearly every surface, bright yellow stickers declare “Sale!”

Bruce Schultze, 73, has run the store for half a century, and this is the first storewide sale he’s ever held. He and his partner Denise Cellier need everything to go.

After 48 years, Bohemian Home is closing its doors.

In its first iteration, Bohemian Home sold women’s clothes and pottery. Schultze worked for the original owners, later buying the store from them. It was one of the first high-end retailers to take a chance on Devine Street.

Schultze credits the store and a few others on the street with kick-starting the boutique fashion trend that has taken over

Kindred Is Raya for Home-Swapping

Photo: Kentaroo Tryman/Getty Images/Maskot

Kindred is emphatic that it’s not Airbnb. Instead of a place for listing your home (or the investment property you bought to turn into a bachelor-party abyss) as a vacation rental, Kindred advertises itself as a “members-only community for home swapping.” No money is exchanged — except cleaning and service fees and a $300 annual membership. The start-up, which launched earlier this year after raising $7.75 million in a seed-funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, claims to be agnostic about the homes it features: The properties can be big or small, rented or owned, as long as they are “safe, well-cared-for homes occupied by people who love to travel.” But these well-cared-for homes — a Sausalito retreat with built-ins and views of the bay; an apartment in Mexico City’s La Condesa with a window wall leading out onto a terrace — mostly look like the

The Best Vintage-Inspired Home Decor and Furniture

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

As any good designer will tell you, one of the best (and easiest) ways to give your home space more character is to design it with a vintage-inspired flair in mind. Sure, contemporary furniture can complete your house with a more modern touch — but a truly great piece of antique-looking furniture or decor can warm up even the most minimalist room, all while incorporating a more charming, nostalgic essence.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t always have to visit your local flea market or antique store to find some seriously cute vintage furniture. In fact, with cottagecore and other romantic styles emerging among this year’s biggest home-design trends, many major retailers are tapping

Torch Lake Township house offers boating paradise

For those who want Caribbean blue waters in the Great Lakes state, a new home on the market — which comes completely furnished, with a solar-powered shore station and even a Four Winns boat — in Antrim County’s Torch Lake Township might be just the option.

But like many of the best homes on the market, if you want this 830-square-foot space, you’ll have to move fast.

Located at 4614 Hopkins Lane on the northern end of Torch Lake, the home was originally listed at $595,000 but rose to $625,000 just a day later. A “three-season vacation home,” agent Cindy Anderson with Lake Homes Realty said the home is “just gorgeous.”

The home began its life as a timber-frame cottage from the ’60s, but Anderson said her clients renovated it to make it the charming space it is today. They saved the trees, granting a level of privacy to

Home furnishings/furniture sector among stronger performers in monthly retail sales snapshot

Washington — Whether due to higher prices or a few more customers coming into stores, furniture and home furnishings bounced back in June, according to advance estimates from the Department of Commerce.

It’s a reversal for the category, and retail as a whole, after May’s report saw declines across several categories. For the month, the home furnishings retail category posted adjusted sales of $12.382 billion, up 1.4% from May’s adjusted $12.209 billion. Year-over-year, furniture and home furnishings sales were up 4.6% against June 2021’s $11.837 billion.

Over the past six months, unadjusted sales for furniture and home furnishings come in at $70.318 billion, up 2.9% compared with the same six-month span from red-hot 2021.

The complete retail snapshot shows adjusted June sales at $680.591 billion, up a point from May’s $673.852 billion and up sharply, 8.4% to be exact, from June 2021’s $627.756 in adjusted sales.
